Championship games set for Northern Saskatchewan Football League

Northern Saskatchewan Football has kicked off the regional playoffs with two semifinal games this week.
On Tuesday, October 6, the Beauval Voyageurs travelled across the province to take on the Cumberland House Islanders in the 1A semi-finals. This game was close throughout, as the Voyageurs were within six points in the fourth quarter. In the end, the leading scorer in Northern Football, Brandon Fiddler was the difference in scoring four touchdowns and the Islanders scored 22 consecutive points late in the game to defeat the Voyageurs 48-20. Tyson Kyplain scored two touchdowns to lead the Beauval squad.
On Thursday, October 8, the Pinehouse Lakers travelled to La Ronge to play the Chargers in the 2A semi-finals. La Ronge got off to a quick start leading 14-0 in the first quarter and didn’t look back. Leading the Chargers was Sean Tingley with three touchdowns. Jacob Glover, also had a strong game scoring two touchdowns and kicking five touchdown conversions for the Chargers. Pinehouse Laker leading scorer, Dray Tinker scored two touchdowns but it was not enough as the La Ronge Chargers defeated the Pinehouse Lakers by a score of 58-18.
These two games set the stage for the 1A and 2 A championship games. On Saturday, October 17, at 1:00 PM the Cumberland House Islanders will play the Green Lake Spirits for The Ralph Pilz Trophy as the 1A Northern Saskatchewan champions. Later at 3:00 PM, the La Ronge Lakers will play the Creighton Kodiaks for The Ralph Pilz Trophy as the 2A Northern Saskatchewan champions. Both games are at the Max Clunie Field in Prince Albert. Regardless of the outcomes, all four teams will enter the SHSAA provincial playoff competition, with the championship team taking the higher seed. Competing in the provincials for the first time, northern football continues to work hard at improving the quality of play to compete at this level.
