FSIN Winter Assembly: Day 1 Recap

  • Fraser Needham | February 12, 2014

Harassment claims against North American Indigenous Games CEO Glen Pratt was the topic of discussion at the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations winter assembly this morning.

NAIG confirmed yesterday that Pratt has stepped aside as the games' CEO due to allegations of harassment from employees.

Vice-Chief Dutch Lerat, who handles sports and recreation for the FSIN, says an internal investigation is under way but he would not confirm whether or not police have been contacted.

"The investigation is in its infancy and I can't preclude what the outcome of that is going to be,: he said.

Lerat will be taking on some extra duties with the games while Pratt is absent.

Liberal Aboriginal Affairs Critic Carolyn Bennett was the keynote speaker this afternoon.

A number of youth were also honoured for their contributions including the Standing Buffalo First Nation peewee boys lacrosse team and Tenille Starr of "Got Land? Thank An Indian" hoodie fame.

FSIN delegates are discussing financial restructuring and recent staffing cuts.

The restructuring has been made necessary by a series of reductions in transfers form the federal government.

NDP Aboriginal Affairs Critic Jean Crowder will be speaking to the Assembly tomorrow.
