Spencer Campbell has been wrestling since he was nine-years-old. He says his inspiration comes from his sibling who he looks up to.

"My brother was a wrestler so I picked it up from him and I really love the sport."

Campbell competed in the sporting event for the U19 category in the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) held in Regina, Saskatchewan.

He says he knew he was going to be attending the event before he received the news.

"It wasn't much of a tryout. I knew I was going to make the team. I was jacked up because it's a pretty good tournament."

Last year, Campbell came up to Saskatoon for the wrestling nationals so it wasn't his first trip to Saskatchewan. But so far, he's been enjoying his experience at NAIG.

"It's fun. The transportation sucks but that's the only thing I can complain about. Other than that, everyone is nice. Today, I won a Gold Medal. I had to wrestle three components: one from Quebec, one from Saskatchewan and some other guy," he says happily.

Campbell is unsure of what he wants to do with his future but after his gold medal win, he was approached for a possible future opportunity.

"Some guy from the University of Alberta came up to me after I won my match today, and he asked for my information on Facebook. He said he’d pass it on to the coach at the University of Alberta. He asked me what I was going to do after school and stuff. But my marks aren't high enough, though. I don't know, I’ll see what happens."

His advice to the younger ones who want to participate in the Indigenous Games in the future is to enjoy what you're good at.

"Try your best and keep training and love your sport."
