  • Jeanelle Mandes | July 22, 2014

HENRYETTA JONES

AGE: 16

HOMETOWN: BUFFALO, NEW YORK

SPORT: VOLLEYBALL

Henryetta Jones is excited to be a part of the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) held in Regina, Saskatchewan. She has been playing volleyball for almost four years now.

Jones was really happy when she heard the news that she made it for NAIG to compete in the sport she loves.

"My team needed some help and they thought to ask me. I was really pumped to come out here and play. It's a really big competition and there's a bunch of Americans here and I'm really proud to be in this."

Although it's her first visit in Saskatchewan, she's enjoying her experience so far.

"It's nice but it's kind of weird a little because the money is different."

Aside from the money difference, she's looking forward to having a great experience at NAIG.

"I'm looking forward to team bonding, hanging out with my teammates and having fun and just being here."

Jones practiced once every weekend to prepare herself and her team for the games.

"We did a lot conditioning, jumping, running, and squats."

Her message to the youth is pursue your passion for the sport you're good at.

"Definitely come if you have the chance and be proud of where you come from, the sport you're playing and represent where you're from."

She hopes to work as a psychologist after she completes high school.
