NAIG 2014 Profiles: Brandon Thomas

  • Jeanelle Mandes | June 25, 2014

BRANDON THOMAS

RESERVE: ONE ARROW FIRST NATION

AGE: 16

SPORT: SOCCER (GOALKEEPER)

Brandon Thomas is in grade 9 at Rosthern High School. He is excited to be going to the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) this year. He says his hard work has paid off.

"I feel good, I tried hard, and I practice a lot to go to NAIG. I’m glad I have accomplished it," he says.

His older brother, Gilbert Thomas, has attended NAIG before and he would like to experience it for himself.

Thomas has always been active in sports his whole life. He has attended the Winter and Summer games almost every year.

His brother, Mervin Thomas, plays soccer with him in the Prince Albert league but when he's not out playing, he is at home practicing.

"I usually get a buddy to help me out and kick the ball around pretty much everyday," says Thomas.

He said his coach is assisting him with a goaltending coach in Prince Albert where he gets trained once a week.

His advice to the younger athletes wanting to further their passion in soccer is to be self-ambitious.

"You got to push yourself, to try get to where you want to be and don't stop till you get there. And when you do get there, keep pushing yourself."

He said he is not only looking forward to bringing home a gold medal but to gain a memorable experience.

After high school, Thomas would like to pursue a university education and hopefully play soccer or hockey.
