Following a judicial recount, the NDP has officially won the northern Saskatchewan riding of Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River.

NDP candidate Georgina Jolibois, long-time mayor of La Loche, edged out Liberal candidate Lawrence Joseph, a former FSIN chief, by 71 votes.

The riding went back and forth during much of the October 19 election night. In the end Jolibois received 10,300 votes and Joseph received 10,229.

The official recount was overseen by a Court of Queen's Bench justice.

The northern riding was one of three NDP seats won in the province. The Liberals won one riding and the remaining went to the Conservatives.
