The Saskatchewan Arts Board has welcomed Lindsay Knight as the new program consultant for Aboriginal arts and community engagement. Lindsay joined their team on December 7, 2015.

Lindsay (aka Eekwol) is an award-winning hip hop performing artist living in Saskatoon, originally from Muskoday First Nation. She has a master’s degree from the University of Saskatchewan and was recently a sessional lecturer in the university’s Native Studies Department.

Chief Executive Officer Michael Jones is excited to work with Lindsay, noting both the depth of her academic learning and her connections with Aboriginal artists in both traditional and contemporary practices. He says, “We look forward, at the Arts Board, to working with Lindsay as we strive to make our programming respond more comprehensively to the province’s various Aboriginal communities.”

Lindsay has dedicated both her personal and academic life to promoting Indigenous arts through music. “Through my experience as a hip hop artist, I have built numerous valuable relationships with professional artists working independently or collaboratively, with arts organizations, schools and communities engaging in arts,” she says. “I see both successes and challenges within rural and urban Saskatchewan communities and I value the strategies, programs and services that are successful in helping and assisting Indigenous artists to thrive and succeed.”
