  • EFN Staff | March 21, 2018

Newo Yotina Friendship Centre (NYFC) announced their new location in the Regina Core neighbourhood. A gathering was held with community stakeholders, which included MLA Warren McCall, on March 16 to celebrate the move at the Heritage Community Association Old No. 1 Firehall.

The new location will be located at 1635 11th Avenue at the former Core Medicenter and NYFC will move in on May 1st with hopes of opening to the public in mid-May.

The new location for the Newo Yotina Friendship Centre will move in beginning of May with hopes of opening to the public in the middle of the month.

“Straddling downtown Regina and the Heritage neighbourhood the centre will be located very strategically to serve a diverse range of people,” said NYFC Executive Director Michael Parker in a media release. “Additionally, we will now be fully-wheel chair accessible on the main floor.”

The centre will have community drop-in time with public access to computers, access to Resolution Health Support workers, and will be launching a brand-new youth outreach program this spring.

“We are really excited to have the Friendship Centre move into the neighbourhood,” said Shayna Stock, Heritage Community Association Executive Director. “NYFC will provide a whole suite of new services for residents and further enhance the fostering of a safe and culturally diverse community.”

Judith Veresuk, Regina Downtown Business Improvement District (RDBID) Executive Director said they are looking forward to welcoming the Friendship Centre to their district.

“[The NYFC’s] dedication to our community, through its services and outreach, will provide a long-lasting benefit to those who need it most – our neighbours, family and friends,” she said. “We all get by with a little help from organizations such as .”

NYFC is a proud member of the Aboriginal Friendship Centres of Saskatchewan and the National Association of Friendship Centres. The organization provides quality programs and services to meet the needs of both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal community members in Regina.
