Olympics 2014: That's a (golden) wrap

  • EFN Staff | February 23, 2014

Canada's men's hocky team shut out Sweden to successfully defend and win the gold medal.

Jonathan Toews, Sidney Crosby, and Chris Kunitz each scored, while Carey Price, pride of Anahim Lake, BC, and the Ulkatcho First Nation, stopped 24 shots.

Canadians across the country rose early to watch the game: it was televised at 4 a.m. Pacific Time and 6 a.m. in Saskatchewan, but that didn't stop hockey fans from filling living rooms and bars across Canada.

Canada won gold in both men's and women's hockey in Sochi, defending their gold medal wins from four years ago.

This was Canada's 10th gold medal at the Sochi 2014 Olympics, bringing its total medal count to 25, including 10 silver and five bronze.

It is Canada's second best showing behind only the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, when Canada won 26 medals.

Closing ceremonies are later today. Defending gold medallists Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse are Canada's flag-bearers.
