Northern football division playoffs continue

Playoffs began last week for the Northern Saskatchewan Football League, and today Division Finals will be held. In the Eastern Division, the Cumberland House Islanders will be in Creighton to take on the Kodiaks. In the Western Division, the Green Lake Spirits will be in Pinehouse to take on the Lakers. The winning teams of each game will compete next weekend for The Ralph Pilz Trophy in Prince Albert.

On Monday, October 20, the Senator Myles Venne Huskies from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band travelled to Creighton to take on the first place Kodiaks. The Huskies got off to a good start but could not contain Chris Reynolds and Evan Linnick who each scored three touchdowns for the hometown Kodiaks. Adding 6 kicking conversions by Evan Linnick, Creighton won the game by a score of 55-18. Colton Morin scored all the points for Senator Myles with three touchdowns himself.
On Tuesday, October 21, two games were played. The Beauval Voyageurs travelled to Green Lake to take on the Spirits. Braedy Sinclair continued his strong performance on offense with four touchdowns to lead the Green Lake Spirits to a 46-12 victory. Green Lake played very well on defence in containing the Beauval squad in particular , Chris Bottrell who recorded two sacks and a fumble recovery that resulted in a touchdown. Over in Cumberland House, the hometown Islanders hosted the Sandy Bay T-Wolves in a game that remained fairly close. Denzel Cook led the Islanders with three touchdowns and Ivan McCallum responded with two touchdowns for the T-Wolves. At the end, the Cumberland House team eliminated Sandy Bay from the playoffs by a score of 34-23.
Finishing off the week on Friday, October 24, La Ronge’s Churchill Chargers who play in Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association’s Conference 4, ended their season with a win over the Big River Rebels by a score of 54-32. They finished with a record of 2 wins and 4 losses for the season.
