Major improvements coming to Stony Rapids Airport

Saskatchewan’s Fifth Busiest Airport is Getting a Multi-Million Dollar Upgrade

The Government of Saskatchewan is investing $3 million to develop a new access road to the community of Stony Rapids and expand the existing apron at the Stony Rapids Airport.

“This airport is the only year-round access to the communities of Stony Rapids and Black Lake,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Nancy Heppner said.  “This investment will improve the quality of life for residents and businesses in the north by improving access to goods and services.”

Right now, there is a waiting list for hangar space which will be alleviated by the tarmac expansion.  In addition, parking is limited at times with aircraft having to drop off their goods and services and then park at another facility.

The community access road is being improved to alleviate safety concerns for passenger and commercial vehicles heading in and out of the community.

In conjunction with this work, under the federal Airport Capital Assistance Program, $7.4 million is being invested in rehabilitating the existing runway and lighting.

Since 2008, the government has invested almost $4.3 billion in transportation infrastructure.
