Persephone Theatres Deep End Series and SNTC in co-production with Western Canada Theatre Company and Gateway Theatre, are pleased to present Dreary and Izzy by Tara Beagan.
After the death of their parents, Deirdre becomes sole caregiver to her older sister Isabelle who is adopted and suffering from Fetal Alcohol Syndrome - an issue that playwright Tara Beagan sees as extremely important.
"Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder is a blight that affects us all. My obsession with it stems from the reality that it is 100% preventable. My play is rooted in love for my people and an admiration of our strength," she says.
The character of Isabelle is joyous and loving but a strain on her older sister. Hope arrives in the form of Freddie Seven Horses, a gorgeous door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesman. Dreary and Izzy warms the heart with its unpredictable explosion of family dynamics, sexuality and faith.
The show runs from March 26 to April 6 at Studio 914 at 914 20th Street West in Saskatoon. There are nightly shows at 8 p.m. except for Mondays.
