FSIN passes plan to deal with funding cuts

  • EFN Staff | March 27, 2014

The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) has approved its core operational plan for 2014-2015.

The plan is meant to help the organization deal with the $2 million federal funding cut.

FSIN Chief Perry Bellegarde believes the plan retains the core strength of the FSIN and ensures the organization can continue to carry out its role of protecting inherent and treaty rights.

The operating plan includes increased financial support from FSIN institutions, paring of some staff positions, Vice-Chief pay cuts, and a decrease in the number of Legislative Assemblies from three to two per year.

"The past few months have been a challenging time for FSIN leadership and staff," said Bellegarde in a release. "We will continue to pursue additional funding opportunities for our organization as well as for our First Nations," he added.
