Fire kills family dog, destroys Hatchet Lake home

  • EFN Staff | April 02, 2014

Wollaston Lake RCMP are investigating a house fire that happened last week on the Hatchet Lake First Nation.

Last Thursday, RCMP responded to a fire in the early morning. The house was completely engulfed in flames upon arrival of the Hatchet Lake Fire Department and RCMP.  RCMP set up a perimeter and advised surrounding residences of the fire. The Hatchet Lake Fire Department was able to contain the fire to the single house.

The home owner and family were not in the residence at the time of the fire; unfortunately, their family dog was inside and died in the fire. As the house was completely destroyed, the home owner and his family lost all of their personal effects.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact Wollaston Lake RCMP at (306) 633-1200.
