Dakota Dunes unveils plans for new clubhouse

  • EFN Staff | July 11, 2014

The Whitecap Dakota First Nation is moving ahead with plans to build a new clubhouse at its Dakota Dunes Golf Course.

The $3.3 million project is set to be completed sometime in May 2015.

The golf course has been using a temporary clubhouse since it opened in 2004.

However, Chief Darcy Bear says any delays in the project have nothing do with an ongoing fraud case where a former employee allegedly stole millions of dollars from the band.

"This is separate from that, so like I said, it's its own corporation, etc., so we have our own retained earnings here," he says.

Dakota Dunes General Manager McLaren Taylor adds the new clubhouse will give the golf course the prestige it deserves.

"It's just what people expect when they come out to a world class golf course," he says. "They don't expect to see trailers."

Dakota Dunes Golf Links board member Chief Cliff Tawpisin of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Whitecap Dakota First Nation Chief and board chair Darcy Bear, Dakota Dunes general manager McLaren Taylor and Dakota Dunes board member and Kitsaki Management CEO Russell Roberts.

The 7,100 square foot facility will have two stories, an expanded pro-shop and a restaurant with capacity for 80 people.

The new clubhouse will also feature locker rooms, a meeting space and club storage.

The Dakota Dunes Golf Course is located on the Whitecap Dakota First Nation, just outside of Saskatoon.
