In recognition of foster families and the care they provide to vulnerable children and youth across the province, the Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed October 19-25 as Foster Families week.

“Foster families are making life better for children and youth in need, and it is important to recognize their hard work and dedication,” Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer said.  “By providing a safe, nurturing home for our most vulnerable citizens, they are providing hope and a bright future to the children and youth in their care.”

"We want to express our deepest appreciation for Saskatchewan's foster parents and are proud to support them in the important work that they do,” Saskatchewan Foster Families Association Executive Director Deb Davies said.  “Through their hard work and compassion, foster parents are creating memories that will last a lifetime for children in need.”

“I would also like to congratulate the Saskatchewan Foster Families Association on its 40th Anniversary this year,” Harpauer said.  “They have helped make a real difference in the lives of countless children and youth over the past 40 years, and I look forward to working with them in this important work for many years to come.”

Currently, there are about 555 ministry approved foster homes across the province.  These families dedicate their lives and open their homes so that children in need have a nurturing place to grow.
