Canada's Patrick Chan wins silver, bringing total medal count to 11

  • EFN Staff | February 14, 2014

Patrick Chan delivered Canada’s second figure skating medal at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Games, and the team’s first in individual competition, with a silver medal in the men’s event.

"All Canadians are proud of Patrick’s performance here in Sochi. He now has an individual Olympic medal to add to his successful resume which includes multiple Canadian and World Championship titles," said Marcel Aubut, President, Canadian Olympic Committee.

Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu was leader after the short program, and he stumbled a bit in his performance, leaving the door open to Chan.

However, Chan also struggled to deliver a clean performance, as did most men during the free skate.

Ultimately, Hanyu won the gold, Chan silver, while Denis Ten of Kazakhstan won the bronze.

Canada now has four gold, five silver, and two bronze medals.
